Jammu, August 17: In a decisive move to counter the recent surge in terrorist activities, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has appointed eight Superintendents of Police (Operations) across six districts in the Jammu region. The appointments come as the Union Territory prepares for upcoming assembly polls amid growing security concerns.

According to an order issued by Principal Secretary Home Department Chandrakar Bharti, these SPs will take charge of anti-terror operations in Kathua, Kishtwar, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch districts. Kathua and Rajouri districts will each have two SPs (Operations), while the others will have one each.

These officers will manage their respective operational sub-divisional areas to ensure tighter security and vigilance. Nisar Ahmed will oversee the Kandi and border areas in Kathua, while Aumer Iqbal will handle Upper Kathua. In Rajouri, Charanjeet Singh and Wajahat Hussain will be responsible for different operational zones.

Other appointments include Ifroz Ahmed in Kishtwar, Mashkoor Ahmed in Reasi, Prithpal Singh in Udhampur, and Sachin Gupta in Poonch. All the newly appointed SPs were previously serving as deputy commandants in the armed police.

This strategic deployment follows 18 terror incidents reported in the Jammu region since June 9, prompting the need for reinforced security measures.
