Mehbooba Mufti Seeks Crime Branch Probe into Chatroo Rape-Murder Case
Srinagar, Aug 29 (PTK):Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has called for an immediate, fair and time-bound investigation into the alleged rape and murder of Raziya Banoo in Chatroo area of Kishtwar district.
Expressing concern over the delay in the case, Mufti said the incident was not merely another crime against women but a serious reflection on society and the justice system.
“Ten days on, the silence surrounding this brutal crime is only deepening the anguish of the grieving family and eroding public faith in the justice system,” Mufti said in a post on X.
She urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to immediately hand over the case to the Crime Branch, seeking a transparent and time-bound investigation.
Mufti further demanded that those responsible for the heinous crime be brought to justice and awarded exemplary punishment in accordance with law.
The case has triggered widespread anger in the Chenab Valley, with several areas observing a shutdown on Thursday in protest against the alleged rape and death of a minor girl in Chatroo. Reports said a teacher has been identified as the prime accused in the case.
The incident has also intensified demands from various sections of society for a swift investigation and strict action against those found responsible.(PTK)
