New Delhi, Aug 16 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday attached the property of an overground worker affiliated with the Hizbul Mujahideen terror group in Kashmir. The action is part of the NIA’s ongoing investigation into the targeted killing of the sarpanch of Adoora village in Kulgam, according to an official statement.
The property in question, a residential house in Tengpora village of Shopian, belongs to Nasir Rashid Bhat. The attachment was executed under Section 33 (1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1947, following orders from the NIA special judge in Jammu.
Bhat, along with other members of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen, has been accused of involvement in the murder of sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir on March 11, 2022. The NIA’s investigation revealed that the killing was part of a larger conspiracy by Hizbul Mujahideen to destabilize India by orchestrating violent attacks and targeted killings.
Further probing revealed Bhat’s active role in the incident, including providing his Alto car to the terrorists, conducting reconnaissance of the sarpanch’s residence, and informing the attackers about the sarpanch’s presence. On the day of the attack, Bhat is said to have transported the assailants to the vicinity of the sarpanch’s home.
The NIA has named six individuals in the charge sheet related to this case, and the trial against them is currently underway.
