Srinagar, 20 October (PTK) : In view of the weather forecast by Metrological Department with possibility of heavy Rains and Snowfall in Kashmir Division on 23rd and 24th of October , Director Horticulture Kashmir asked the Orchardists to speedup
harvesting of fruits and also prefer to start pruning
in their orchards.
In an audio message, Official of Director Horticulture addressed to the orchardists that to speedup harvesting of fruits and its proper storage,Cleaning of drainage channels so that stagnation of water does not take place in
orchards and Proper support to the trees which were
earlier damaged or uprooted due to last year snowfall.
In view of weather advisory by Metrological department, Aijaz Ahmad asked to farmers to remain vigilant and in case of snowfall must visit their orchards periodically and shake trees so that snow
does not accumulate on the limbs.
However, there is no need of any panic and for further assistance please contact your
nearest Horticulture Office or office of Chief Horticulture Officer of the District.
Shake newly planted trees to prevent damage to new roots as they take a couple of years to anchor firmly in the soil. If the fruit trees tilt, reduce the canopy load by pruning, and provide proper support. If the trees get partially uprooted, slowly pull back the trees to the original position after heavy pruning and provide proper support staking to the main trunk.(PTK)
