Unidentified Militant Killed in Overnight Gunfight in North Kashmir

SRINAGAR: An unidentified militant was killed, and a non-commissioned officer (NCO) was injured during an overnight gunfight in Trimukha Top, Lolab area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the Army reported on Wednesday.
The Chinar Corps of the Army announced on platform X, “Based on specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in the general area of Kowut, Kupwara, a Joint Search Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police leading up to 23 July 2024.
On 24 July, vigilant troops observed suspicious movement and challenged the individuals, who responded with indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing firefight, one terrorist was eliminated, and an NCO was injured.”
A senior police officer stated that the gunfight resumed this morning after being suspended overnight. The militant’s body has not yet been retrieved as the operation is still ongoing in the area.
