Four earthquakes struck the regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh within the span of just one hour on Monday. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the seismic activity:

1. The initial earthquake, measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, jolted Kargil at 3:48 pm local time.

2. Swiftly following, a second quake hit the same region at 4:01 pm, registering a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale.

The National Centre for Seismology posted detailed information about each seismic event on Twitter:

– The first earthquake in Kargil had a magnitude of 5.5, occurring on 18-12-2023, 15:48:53 IST, with coordinates Lat: 33.41 & Long: 76.70 and a depth of 10 km.

– The subsequent quake in Kargil measured 3.8 on the Richter scale, happening on 18-12-2023, 16:00:32 IST, with coordinates Lat: 33.34 & Long: 76.78 and a depth of 10 km.
