SRINAGAR, Dec 18 (PTK): In a burst of color and fragrance, Asia’s largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar is set to dazzle visitors with an astounding display of 1.7 million tulip bulbs next year. Assistant Floriculture Officer, Asif Ahmad, revealed that the garden will feature six new varieties imported from Holland, enriching the visual spectacle for visitors.

Ahmad stated, “We have almost completed the sowing of bulbs, and this year’s showcase will surpass the previous, totaling a million more bulbs than last year.” The addition of six new tulip varieties from Holland enhances the diversity, supplementing the 68 varieties that graced the garden in the previous year.

Anticipating a surge in visitors, Ahmad expressed confidence that the garden’s allure would surpass the record-breaking 3.65 lakh footfall witnessed in the previous year. He shared details about the ongoing expansion, mentioning the near completion of a Sakura garden adjacent to the Tulip Garden, promising a captivating experience for tourists.

“We have developed large green spaces on about 50 kanals of land, providing an enchanting setting for visitors,” Ahmad added, emphasizing the completion of necessary civil work in the garden. With more than 100 dedicated individuals, including casual laborers and permanent gardeners, ensuring the garden’s upkeep, the meticulous planting of tulip bulbs began on November 15.

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, sprawling over 30 hectares, stands as a testament to nature’s beauty. Nestled in the foothills of the Zabarwan range, the terraced garden offers panoramic views of Dal Lake. Expected to open around March 20 next year, weather-dependent, the garden has earned global recognition, making its mark in the World Book of Records in London as the most beautiful and largest in Asia.

In recent years, the Tulip Garden has become a magnet for tourists worldwide, drawing over 3.65 lakh visitors this year alone.
