NIA engages in ‘building up’ Jamaat-e-Islami terror funding case

 

 

 

SRINAGAR, SEP 22 (PTK): A month after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted records searches at 61 campuses of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) cadres in 14 districts of Jammu and Kashmir in two consecutive days, the central agency is now engaged in happened. In “making up” the case and is investigating about 15 suspects in the case.

 

An NIA official said the JEI suspect is being questioned for the past four-five days at the NIA headquarters in Lodhi Road area near the Central Government Offices (CGO) premises.

 

These suspects are among the JeI cadres whose residential premises were raided by the NIA during August 8-9 at 61 places in Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Ramban, Doda . In the JE terror funding case, NIA officers in Kishtwar and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir gave this information.

 

“Around 14-15 suspects are being questioned in connection with the documents seized from their premises during the raids,” the official said. They mainly belong to Ganderbal, Bandipora and Kupwara districts of Kashmir Valley and some of them are from Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu region.

 

The official further said that “JEI suspects will be interrogated for at least one more week.”

 

“As we (NIA) are doing with the searches, presently the suspects are being investigated with the documents recovered from their homes. This is still a preliminary investigation in the matter and we are trying to strengthen the case further.

 

The NIA along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) conducted searches on August 8 at 56 locations in 14 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Continuing the search, the NIA conducted searches at five more places on 9 August.

 

The searches also included the offices of JEI office-bearers, the premises of its members and trusts run by the allegedly banned organisation. Various incriminating documents and electronic devices were seized from the premises of the suspects. (PTK)
