Militant killed in Shopian encounter, operation on. A militant has been killed in an encounter between government forces and militants in orchards of Ganopora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district 

Press trust of Kashmir | Shopian :A militant has been killed in an encounter between government forces and militants in orchards of Ganopora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday.

An official said that an exchange of fire took place in orchards of Ganopora at around 1:50 pm following which search operation has been extended in whole area.

He said in fresh contact one militant has been killed while as operation is on in the area.

Earlier an official said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

Pertinently among the militants killed this year, most of them belong to Shopian.(PTK)

Party leader and Spokesperson Sheeban Ashai visited Rather family at Shireen Bagh Hospital Karan nagar, brought to light dichotomy of conflicting reports in News papers and the victims father’s account.

Father of the victim, Ghulam Ahmed Rather dismissed reports in newspapers claiming victims mistakenly picked up shell while collecting wild vegetables from Chowkibal.

Father blamed local political rivals; demanded a thorough probe in the incident .

Lashing out at over zealous media outlets party leadership solicited a detailed probe in the incident since truth becomes biggest casualty in such cases.

Awami Itehad Party top brass demanded that those responsible for the death of Gulnaza Banu be brought to book, rubbishing reports in public domain which have portrayed a totally different picture of the unfortunate incident family alleged involvement of locals associated with a political outfit.

Ashai added that it’s responsibility of LG administration to ensure that truth comes to the fore and affected family gets justice for the death of nineteen year old daughter.

Ashai questioned local police unit who even despite victims father’s allegations have given a totally different version in the case. Police record states duo had gone into Chowkibal forest to collect wild vegetables where they picked up a metallic substance (shell) that later exploded at their home.

When the victim’s father himself is disputing the story of police on what basis have they decided who is responsible? Ashai said, “whole picking up shell mistakenly while plucking vegetables story is untrue and absolutely bunkum as per the victim’s father”.

This incident demands a thorough probe; he also objurgated Governments insouciance and urged LG to personally intervene in the issue.

Party leadership extended their sympathies with the family, Kupwara District President Firdous Ahmed Baba condoled the sad demise of Gulnaza Banu, demanded a rigorous enquiry in the incident.

He said, “ It should the prime responsibility of Government of day to ensure a time bound probe is ordered and justice is done in the case. Those responsible for the gruesome death of Gulnaza must be brought to book”.(PTK).
