KPDCL Takes Stringent Measures Against Power Theft and Unpaid Dues
SRINAGAR (PTK) : In a bid to curb power theft and ensure timely payments, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has amplified its inspection drives across all districts of the Kashmir Division. The recent crackdown resulted in a substantial fine of Rs. 7.84 lakh imposed on consumers caught hooking wires and bypassing meters.
Reports reaches News Agency Press Trust of Kashmir that, total of 566 drives were carried out in 19 Electric Divisions, with penalties enforced for unauthorized connections. Notably, 64 Domestic Transformers (DTs) were reported damaged due to overloading, emphasizing the need for responsible consumption.
Providing insight into the extensive inspections, a KPDCL spokesperson revealed that Circle II Srinagar saw 183 drives, followed by 60 in Circle I Srinagar, 123 in Circle Ganderbal, 71 in Circle Pulwama, 35 in Circle Bijbehara, and 94 in Circle Sopore.
Highlighting the strict stance on unpaid bills, the spokesperson disclosed that 1082 connections, spanning domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors, were disconnected for non-payment of energy dues exceeding three months. This comprised 371 domestic, 549 commercial, and 157 industrial consumers.
Emphasizing the importance of responsible consumption, the KPDCL spokesman urged consumers to treat Domestic Transformers (DTs) as communal assets. Of the 64 damaged DTs, those irreparable are being sent to the Central Workshop at Pampore, while others are undergoing repairs at divisional-level workshops. The commitment to replacing damaged transformers within set timelines was reiterated.
With a focus on revenue realization, KPDCL called upon all consumers to settle their outstanding energy dues promptly. The spokesperson revealed a collection of Rs. 8.00 crore on Wednesday alone, underscoring the active pursuit of pending arrears. KPDCL is determined to meet the revenue realization targets set by the Government through persistent efforts and consumer cooperation.
