Jammu-Srinagar Highway Closed Again Due to Heavy Rainfall and Landslides
Jammu, April 20, 2025 – The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been closed once again due to heavy rainfall, which caused landslides and falling rocks along the stretch between Nashri and Banihal in Ramban district.
The closure of the highway has led to tragic consequences, with at least three people confirmed dead. Over 100 individuals were rescued from the Dharam Kund area, where flash floods damaged around 40 homes and swept away several vehicles.
In addition to NH-44, other important routes, including the Mughal Road, Sinthan Road, and the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road, have also been closed due to weather-related disruptions.
Traffic authorities have advised travelers to avoid the affected routes, as efforts to clear the debris and reopen the roads continue. However, questions are being raised about the recurring nature of these disruptions and the lack of proactive measures to address the issue before each rainy season.
Despite the ongoing efforts, local residents and commuters continue to express frustration over the government’s delayed response to such frequent disruptions.
As the weather conditions remain unfavorable, authorities are urging the public to stay informed through official updates and avoid unnecessary travel until the situation improves. -(PTK)
