Election for Srinagar mayor to be held on July 14
SRINAGAR JULY (PTK) Poll to elect mayor for Srinagar municipal corporation will be held on July 14 as per the notification issued by SMC.
Srinagar municipal Corporation issued a notification for the submission of Nomination paper from 9 July to 11 July.
“Notification for fresh elections to the post of Mayor as per the Provision and relevant Section of the J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 reads with rule 6 of Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Regulations, 2005.
As per the order issued by SMC srinagar reads ” Form of nomination paper shall be obtained from the office lf the secretary Srinagar municipal Corporation between the time of 11 AM to 4 PM from 9th July to 10Th July.
Order further reads “Nomination papers shall be delivered between the time of 11 AM to 4PM in the afternoon by a candidate at the office of Secretary SMC on any later than 11th July.
The notification reads “withdrawal of candidate shall be delivered by a Candidate at anytime before election proceeded within the meeting”.
Notification further reads as ” election being contested the poll will take place on 14th of July from 11AM onwards”.
On June 16, Junaid Azim Mattu was removed as Srinagar Mayor after 42 of 70 Corporators passed a no-confidence motion against him. According to the Municipal Corporation Act 2000, Deputy Mayor of the SMC has to hold the charge till elections for new Mayor is held.
Under the Act, Mayor has to be elected within one month of a no-confidence motion.
