Civil Engineering Department Clinches Inter-Department Cricket Tournament 2026 Title at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar, June 10 (PTK): The Civil Engineering Department emerged as champions of the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament 2026 at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, defeating the Electrical Engineering Department by 60 runs in an exciting final played on the institute campus.

After winning the toss, the Civil Engineering Department opted to bat first and posted a formidable total of 210 runs in their allotted 15 overs.

The innings was powered by a magnificent century from Adnan, who smashed 112 runs off just 42 balls, anchoring the team’s innings with an aggressive display of stroke play. He received valuable support from Abu Bakar, who scored 35 runs off 20 deliveries, while Ahsan-ul-Haq contributed 32 runs off 22 balls, helping Civil Engineering reach a commanding total.

For the Electrical Engineering Department, Mohd Imran and Ayush Shrivastava claimed one wicket each.

Chasing a daunting target, the Electrical Engineering Department managed 149 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted overs. Vipin top-scored with 40 runs off 30 balls, while captain Mir Shariq played a brisk innings of 33 runs from 14 deliveries. Despite their efforts, the team fell short by 60 runs.

With the ball, Ahsan-ul-Haq delivered an impressive performance, claiming three wickets, while Abu Bakar picked up two wickets to help Civil Engineering secure the title.

Following the victory, the Civil Engineering Department lifted the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament 2026 Trophy, concluding the tournament on a triumphant note.

Congratulating the winners and participants, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, praised the players for exhibiting exceptional sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the tournament.

He said such sporting events play a vital role in promoting teamwork, leadership, discipline and a healthy campus environment, contributing significantly to the holistic development of students.

Prof. Kanaujia later presented the winner’s trophy to the Civil Engineering Department and the runner-up trophy to the Electrical Engineering Department. He commended both teams for their outstanding performances and appreciated the players for demonstrating remarkable talent and teamwork.

Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, lauded the organizers and participating teams for making the tournament a grand success. He emphasized that sports and extracurricular activities are essential components of student life and complement academic excellence.

Associate Dean Students’ Welfare, Dr. Shashikant, also appreciated the enthusiasm displayed by students during the competition and reaffirmed NIT Srinagar’s commitment to promoting sports and wellness activities on campus.

Dr. Manoj Kumar, In-charge Faculty Sports Activity and Students (SAS), along with faculty members, staff and students, attended the prize distribution ceremony held after the final match.

The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from all academic departments and attracted a large number of students, faculty members and staff, making it one of the most vibrant sporting events of the academic session at NIT Srinagar.(PTK)
