Zaffar Manhas Resigns from Apni Party, Expected to Join Congress

Srinagar, August 20:  Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, the Vice President of the Apni Party, has resigned from his position. He, along with his son, Irfan Manhas, is likely to join the Indian National Congress on Wednesday.

Confirming his resignation, Zaffar Manhas stated that the next steps would be determined based on feedback from his workers. Sources indicate that a meeting of his supporters is currently underway at his residence, with a final decision expected imminently.

Zaffar Manhas, a prominent political figure, was one of the founding members of the Apni Party after his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His potential shift to the Congress is seen as a significant realignment in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape. Irfan Manhas, his son, currently serves as the Vice Chairperson of the District Development Council (DDC) in Shopian.

Manhas is expected to formally join the Congress in the presence of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, marking a new chapter in his political career. This move could potentially influence the political dynamics in the region, especially given the stature of the Manhas family in local politics.

The Apni Party, founded in 2020 by former PDP leader Altaf Bukhari, has been a key player in the political arena of Jammu and Kashmir, but the resignation of such a high-profile member is likely to have significant repercussions.

More details are expected following the formal announcement on Wednesday.
