WMDA Organises Sanitation, Anti-Drug Awareness Rallies Around Manasbal Lake

Ganderbal, May 16 (PTK): Wullar Manasbal Development Authority on Saturday organised sanitation drives and anti-drug awareness rallies around Manasbal Lake to promote environmental conservation and awareness against substance abuse.

The programmes were conducted in collaboration with Sainik School Manasbal, local volunteer group QRT and a local educational institution, witnessing active participation from students, volunteers, teachers and officials of the Authority.

The rallies and cleanliness drives were organised as part of the ongoing 100 Day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan launched across Jammu and Kashmir on April 11, 2026, aimed at eradicating drug abuse and encouraging public participation in awareness campaigns.

Participants carried placards and raised slogans highlighting the importance of preserving the ecological balance of Manasbal Lake, regarded as one of Kashmir’s scenic freshwater lakes. They also stressed the need to maintain sanitation in and around the lake to safeguard its natural beauty and biodiversity.

Speakers during the programme said environmental degradation and drug addiction are serious concerns that require collective efforts from society. Students and volunteers appealed to youth to stay away from drugs and contribute towards building a clean and healthy society.

Chief Executive Officer of WMDA Ahsanul Haq Chishti said the Authority has prioritised cleanliness in and around the lake and would continue organising such awareness programmes with active public participation.

He also appealed to people to cooperate in preserving the fragile ecosystem of Manasbal Lake and support the campaign against drug abuse for the welfare of society.(PTK)
