Syed Mantaqui Memorial College IUST Awantipora hosts special lecture by Dr. Manjulata Evatt

 

Awantipora, 6 Aug: Syed Mantaqui Memorial College of Nursing and Medical Technology, IUST, Awantipora hosted a special lecture by Dr. Manjulata Evatt on 6th August, 2024 at Auditorium Academic Block III of IUST. The theme for this special lecture “Global Nursing: Education Opportunities in America,” highlighted the significance and pathway of achieving quality education outside India.

The program was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Prof. Ayub Qadri, Dean of Health Sciences, as a Guest of Honour; Prof. Suresh K Sharma, Professor and Principal at College of Nursing, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur, esteemed Guest of Honour; Dr. Manjulata Evatt, Clinical Associate Professor, Duquensne School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, USA, as special invitee; Ms. Asmat Parveen, founder principal of SMMCN&MT, IUST, and programme coordinator of this special event, and; Ms. Neelofar Jan, Principal SMMCN &MT.

In her welcome speech, Ms. Asmat Parveen, Founder Principal, SMMCN &MT, IUST; and the programme coordinator of this special event, gave insightful remarks about the selected theme. She welcomed the dignitaries and all the attendees with warm welcome. Later on, she underscored the brief history of global nursing, and its importance in the nursing scholarship and practice. She highlighted that global nursing is essential in addressing worldwide healthcare challenges, providing critical care, and improving health outcomes in diverse populations. The growing complexity of healthcare and the global movement of professionals and patients has made nursing more interconnected. Global cooperation in education, research, and policy is crucial for enhancing the nursing workforce and guaranteeing fair and high-quality healthcare for everyone.

Prof. Suresh K Sharma, Professor and Principal at College of Nursing, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur, the Guest of Honour, showed great pleasure on meeting the nursing faculty and young students of nursing colleges. He expressed how energizing and refreshing it is for him to meet young nursing minds. He emphasised the global phenomenon of population ageing and the international focus on India due to its significant young population. He emphasized that India is poised to become a global youth leader, with the potential to provide the world with competent human resources, especially in nursing.

Dr Manjulata Evatt, Clinical Associate Professor, Duquesne University School of Nursing. She expressed that nursing makes us a better person. She emphasized that nursing extends beyond bedside care, with nurses now assuming roles as critical thinkers, decision-makers, leaders, educators, and managers. She explored the legal, ethical, and technological dimensions of nursing, particularly highlighting the pivotal role of technology in advancing the profession. Prof. Ayub Qadri, Dean of Health Sciences expressed his views on the importance of providing quality education to nursing students, and how the academic milieu at IUST, is dedicated towards the same.

The second part of the programme was scientific session, and special lectures were delivered by the esteemed guests, i.e., Prof. Suresh K Sharma; and, Dr Manjulata Evatt. Prof. Suresh K Sharma delivered a highly intellectual lecture on importance of emotional intelligence, and the pivotal role played by EI in achieving success, both at personal and professional fronts. He expressed his viewpoints on how Emotional Intelligence helps an individual to be more self-aware, open, and empathetic. He underscored the significance of emotional intelligence in achieving the organizational goals.

Dr Manjulata Evatt thoroughly and diligently explained the courses offered at Duquesne University School of Nursing, Pittsburgh. She oriented the students about the onsite and online programmes offered by the university. She explained to students the importance of aligning personal goals with professional aspirations to achieve recognition in their careers. She provided a comprehensive overview of the admission pathway to Duquesne University, offering insights into the application process. Additionally, she shared a glimpse of life at Duquesne University and in Pittsburgh, highlighting the vibrant academic and social environment. Dr. Manjulata’s presentation was a valuable opportunity for students to explore the vast landscape of nursing education in America. This event seeks to empower students in the area of nursing by connecting worldwide and Indian nursing education systems, providing them with the essential knowledge and resources to accomplish their academic and professional aspirations.

Later on, the floor was opened for Question-and-Answer session, allowing students to engage and interact with the esteemed academicians. Vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Nadiya, faculty at SMCON &MT. She thanked all the persons involved in the successful conduct of this program. Additionally, esteemed faculty members and students from nursing colleges of IUST, and Government Degree College, Awantipora, were also present on the occasion.
