Soldier Succumbs, Four Injured in Militant Attack in J&K’s Poonch District
SRINAGAR: Tragedy struck in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district as a soldier laid down his life and four others sustained injuries in a brazen militant ambush on a convoy of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Saturday evening.
The attack unfolded near Shahsitar in the Surankote area around 6:15 pm, as the convoy, en route to its base at Sanai Top, came under heavy fire from militants, officials confirmed.
Amidst the chaos, five soldiers bore the brunt of the assault and were swiftly evacuated to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment. Sadly, one of the critically injured soldiers succumbed to his injuries, while another remains in critical condition, receiving intensive medical care. The three remaining injured personnel are reported to be in stable condition.
Officials, speaking to news agency Press Trust of Kashmir, reiterated the grim reality of the ambush, confirming that an Indian Air Force vehicle convoy fell victim to the militants’ aggression. Currently, cordon and search operations are underway in the affected area by local military units, aimed at restoring order and ensuring the safety of surrounding areas.
As investigations into the attack continue, the tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the constant threat faced by security forces in the region and underscores the unwavering commitment of personnel to safeguarding peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
