Shopian Shootout: Police identifies slain militants

Kulgam, June 03 (PTK): Police on Monday morning identified the militants who were killed in a brief shootout in Molu Chitragam area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Sources identified the slain as Firdous Ahmad Bhat S/o Mohammad Jamal Bhat R/o Ponewa Kulgam and Sajad Ahmad Dar son of Gulam Hasan Dar resident of Wampora Kulgam.

According to official sources, Firdous Ahmad Bhat was missing from 1st week of April this year and second slain as Sajad Ahmad Dar, was a driver of Tavera vehicle.

An official told PTK that militants who were traveling in a vehicle bearing registration No (JK03E0397) jumped a check post set up by party of 44 RR in the area and opened fire.

“Forces retaliated, triggering a brief shootout after which two dead bodies were recovered from the site,” he said.

Meanwhile, authorities suspended internet services in Kulgam district as a precautionary measure in wake of militant killings.(PTK)
