Respite from Heat Wave in Kashmir Valley as Temperatures Dip

After enduring the hottest July days on record, residents of Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir Valley found relief on Friday as temperatures dipped, bringing an end to a four-day heatwave. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2°C, a decrease of 1.5°C from the previous day.
Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, experienced a high of 32.0°C, while the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam recorded a cooler 26.3°C. Kupwara’s temperature settled at 32.8°C, and the ski resort of Gulmarg saw a maximum of 23.4°C.
In the Jammu division, temperatures remained above 30°C in most areas. Jammu city recorded a high of 34.3°C, Banihal saw 30.4°C, while Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah registered 26.8°C, 30.7°C, and 31.1°C respectively.
The Meteorological Department has forecast intermittent rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir until tomorrow, with the possibility of moderate to heavy showers in some areas. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places on July 7, and hot and humid weather with brief spells of rain and thunderstorms is predicted from July 8 to July 10.
From July 11 to July 12, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at scattered locations. The advisory also warns of potential flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones at vulnerable sites. Low-lying areas may experience temporary waterlogging, and moderate thunderstorms and lightning could occur in some places.
The weather respite has brought much-needed relief to the residents and tourists in the Valley, who can now look forward to more comfortable conditions in the coming days.
