Lieutenant Governor inaugurates transformative academic initiatives at Cluster University Jammu
JAMMU, JULY 31 (PTK): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today inaugurated a series of transformative academic initiatives at Cluster University Jammu, describing them as a major step towards redefining higher education and preparing students for the challenges of the future.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the significance of the newly launched “Design Your Degree” programme, calling it a revolutionary student-centric initiative that enables learners to design their own academic pathways based on their interests, talents and career aspirations.
He said the rapidly evolving world demands multidisciplinary thinkers capable of integrating knowledge from different fields to solve complex problems.
“The frontiers of knowledge are continuously expanding. Problems are multidimensional, and their solutions are possible only through multidisciplinary approaches. The 21st century will welcome those youth who possess the ability to integrate knowledge from multiple fields and discover new solutions. The future belongs to those who recognise possibilities rather than boundaries,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor also inaugurated integrated academic programmes in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics and Geography, emphasizing that modern scientific challenges require interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
He observed that issues such as climate change cannot be addressed through a single discipline and require the combined application of environmental science, chemistry, physics, mathematics, geography and related fields.
The university also launched a one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Sanatan Dharma and Indian Knowledge Systems and established a Department of Vedic Studies.
The Lieutenant Governor said true education must balance scientific advancement with civilizational values, adding that India’s knowledge traditions—from the Vedas and Upanishads to Ayurveda, astronomy, mathematics and linguistics—represent a rich legacy of scientific inquiry and intellectual excellence.
He said the new academic programme would enable students to explore India’s philosophical and scientific heritage while pursuing modern education.
The Lieutenant Governor also inaugurated the Semiconductor Skilling Programme in collaboration with IIT Madras, describing it as an important initiative aligned with India’s ambition to emerge as a global leader in technology development and semiconductor manufacturing.
He noted that semiconductors form the backbone of modern innovation, powering technologies ranging from mobile devices to advanced space missions.
“Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has resolved to become a leader in technology development and manufacturing. This skilling initiative will equip students with cutting-edge expertise and strengthen India’s position in the global deep-tech ecosystem,” he said.
Calling upon students to focus on innovation and skill development, the Lieutenant Governor said every new skill acquired and every innovation pursued would contribute to India’s journey towards self-reliance and global leadership.
He expressed confidence that the newly introduced programmes would not only enrich students’ academic journeys but also contribute significantly to the socio-economic progress of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The new programmes at Cluster University Jammu mark the beginning of a new philosophy of education—rooted in India’s cultural identity and oriented towards global aspirations. These initiatives will empower students to dream, innovate and lead,” he added.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor also launched a Post-Graduate Programme in Environmental Sciences with Minor Specialisation in Renewable Energy, a one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Dogri Translation, released the Nasha Mukt Bharat Activity Report, and inaugurated the renaming of the Vice-Chancellor’s office-cum-secretariat complex as “Suryaputri Tawi Bhawan” and the old IIM campus as “Chandrabhaga Campus.”
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Chandrasekar, Registrar Ankur Mahajan, heads of departments, principals of constituent colleges, faculty members and students.(PTK)
