Rains Drench Jammu and Kashmir, MeT Warns of Further Deluge

 

Jammu and Kashmir experienced heavy rainfall over the past day, with the meteorological department issuing forecasts for more precipitation in the coming days.

 

According to meteorological department officials, several regions across Jammu and Kashmir received substantial rainfall in the last 24 hours. Srinagar recorded 4.5mm, Qazigund 10.2mm, Pahalgam 20.8mm, Kupwara 15.1mm, Kokernag 9.8mm, Gulmarg 8.6mm, Jammu 2.3mm, Banihal 2.3mm, Batote 22.8mm, Katra 4.6mm, and Bhadarwah 16.4mm.

 

The forecast for the upcoming days is as follows:

 

April 27th: Expect generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or snow in many places, especially in higher reaches. Heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and hailstorms may occur at isolated locations.

 

April 28th-29th:  The weather will remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain or snow, particularly in higher elevations. Thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds are expected in some areas, with the possibility of heavy rain in isolated places, particularly on April 28th and 29th.

 

April 30th: Anticipate generally cloudy conditions with light rain and thunder in many places.

 

May 1st-5th: Dry weather is expected across the region.

 

Advisory Alerts:

Farmers: It is advised to suspend farm operations until April 30th.

Traffic Disruptions: Temporary disruptions of traffic are expected over higher reaches, including Zojila, Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road, and Razdan Pass.

Waterlogging: Low-lying areas may experience waterlogging.

Landslides: There is a possibility of landslides and shooting stones.

Water Levels: Expect a temporary increase in water levels in the Jehlum River, its tributaries, and other local streams and Nallas.
