Provincial Level Task Force on LSD Management visits Samba
PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR SAMBA, AUGUST 27: The Provincial Level Task Force on Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) Management, constituted vide Government Order no. 172-JK (APD)of 2022 dated 25-08- 2022 and comprising Prof. Jaswinder Sudan, Chairperson and 4 other members, on Saturday visited District Samba to assess the ground level situation, pattern of spread of the disease in the district, recovery rate of animals, status of awareness among the people about the disease.
Dr Rahul Dev, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Samba, apprised the Task Force of the present situation of LSD Management activities being carried out in the District.
It was informed that awareness by Mobile Vans, Mass print and electronic media, Door to door awareness and in the form of Awareness Camps is being continuously carried out in the District and till date more than 100 awareness campaigns have been carried out since the outbreak on August 7, 2022.
“As of today there are 3052 cases of which 2078 have recovered and 961 are under treatment. 13 deaths have also been reported although 4 were reported at the inception of the disease and others during the course of disease” the team was told. Out of discussions, it was made clear that the deaths occur in those cases wherein the farmers continue with their own home remedies and cause a delay in approaching for Veterinary help. Although, from the very beginning of the disease, the Animal Husbandry Department Samba in coordination with the District Administration Samba had issued Helpline Numbers for reporting of the disease and approaching for help. The Task Force alongwith CAHO Samba also called on Anuradha Gupta, District Development Commissioner Samba and had a detailed discussion about disease and Control measures to be taken for the disease.

The Deputy Commissioner Samba assured of all the help from District Administration and also proposed a slew of measures to achieve LSD free Samba.
The DDC Vice Chairman, Balwan Singh, chaired the meeting and also raised the concerns of the general public of the District Samba and asked the Task Force to take up the matter of extra staff and more availability of the medicine with the Govt at earliest possible.
The team alongwith DDC Vice Chairman and the CAHO Samba visited the Dwarkapuri Gaushala Barian to take the firsthand account of the Prevalence of the disease in the animals and ascertain the treatment regimen being followed by the District.
Meeting ended on a positive note with the assurance that remedial steps suggested would be proposed to Govt. for further consideration.
