Nothing to worry’: amid concerns about fallout of Taliban takeover on Kashmir
SRINAGAR, AUG 29 (PTK): The army on Sunday said the security situation in the Kashmir Valley is under control and there is nothing to worry about in view of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.
Speaking to reporters, General Officer Commanding of Army’s 15 Corps, also known as Chinar Corps, Lt Gen DP Pandey said: “It is a playground and I am not going to comment about outsiders. But remember, the security situation here is under our control and there is nothing to worry about.”
He was responding to a question on the challenges to the security establishment in Kashmir after the military victory of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
His statement came amid concerns that the occupation of Afghanistan by the Taliban could affect the security situation in the Kashmir Valley.
Earlier this week, Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat said that India was concerned about a possible influx of terror activities from Afghanistan, adding that contingency plans have been put in place.
“We were concerned about how terrorist activity from Afghanistan could escalate into India and to the extent that our contingency plan was in place and we are prepared for it,” he said in the ORF program “India-US Partnership: The 21st Century”.
Several Indian officials have expressed concern that the withdrawal of the Taliban could encourage terrorists to attack India, especially in Kashmir. (PTK)
