JKLCMA Marks World Environment Day, Stresses Protection of Kashmir’s Fragile Ecosystem

Srinagar, June 5 (PTK): The Jammu and Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (JKLCMA), in collaboration with Crescent Public School Srinagar, on Thursday organized a World Environment Day programme aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable practices among students.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers and officials of JKLCMA. Various activities including awareness sessions, environmental presentations, poster-making competitions and a plantation drive were organized to sensitize young minds about environmental conservation and ecological sustainability.

Vice Chairman JKLCMA, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, attended the programme as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chairman emphasized the urgent need for collective action to address environmental challenges such as pollution, climate change and biodiversity loss. He highlighted the important role educational institutions play in nurturing environmental responsibility among the younger generation.

He also underscored the significance of preserving Kashmir’s fragile ecosystem, particularly its lakes, wetlands, forests and water resources, which are vital for maintaining ecological balance and sustaining livelihoods.

Khurshid Ahmad Shah urged students to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles and actively contribute towards conservation efforts in their communities.

Watershed Manager (Project Officer), JKLCMA, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, also addressed the participants and highlighted the importance of protecting natural resources through sustainable practices and public participation.

During the programme, students delivered awareness messages focusing on environmental protection, waste management and conservation of natural resources. Their presentations reflected a strong commitment towards building a greener and more sustainable future.

The management of Crescent Public School appreciated JKLCMA for organizing the programme and providing students with an opportunity to engage meaningfully with environmental issues and sustainability initiatives.

The event concluded with a pledge by students, teachers and participants to protect the environment and adopt responsible practices in their daily lives to contribute towards a cleaner, greener and healthier future.(PTK)
