Khet Bachao Abhiyan Reaches Kalakote; Farmers Sensitized on Sustainable Fertilizer Use
Rajouri, June 5 (PTK): As part of the month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan, the Agriculture Department on Thursday organized an awareness programme at Village Bathera in Sub-Division Kalakote to educate farmers on scientific fertilizer management and sustainable agricultural practices.
The programme focused on promoting the judicious use of fertilizers, balanced nutrient management and soil health conservation to ensure sustainable agricultural development and enhanced farm productivity.
A large number of farmers participated in the awareness drive and were sensitized about the importance of soil test-based fertilizer application, integrated nutrient management and efficient utilization of fertilizers for improving crop yields while maintaining long-term soil fertility.
Agriculture experts and officials highlighted the harmful effects of excessive and indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers, warning that such practices can adversely impact soil health, environmental sustainability and future agricultural productivity.
Farmers were encouraged to adopt scientific farming methods and sustainable agricultural practices to improve production, reduce input costs and enhance their income.
The programme was attended by Assistant Director Law Enforcement (ADLE) Kuldeep Singh, District Seed Certification Officer (DSCO) Nirmal Parkash, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) Kalakote Rohit Baloria, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Opinder Koul and Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO) Sandeep Singh.
During the interactive session, officers addressed farmers’ queries related to fertilizer management, soil health improvement, nutrient deficiencies and modern agricultural techniques.
The experts emphasized the importance of balanced nutrient application and informed farmers about various government schemes and departmental initiatives aimed at promoting environmentally sustainable and economically viable farming practices.
Officials stated that the Khet Bachao Abhiyan is being conducted across the region to create awareness among farmers about preserving agricultural land, improving soil health and adopting climate-resilient farming techniques for long-term agricultural sustainability.(PTK)
