Srinagar, August 01: Senior Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Leader and former Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, who is also In-charge of the Eidgah Constituency, has expressed strong support for the Srinagar District Administration’s recent decision to commence fencing work on major bridges in the city.

In a statement today, the leader lauded the administration’s move to enhance safety by fencing the sides of critical bridges including Nawa Kadal, Fateh Kadal, Gow Kadal, Safakadal, and Noor Jahan Bridge. This initiative, with an expected completion date of September 10, 2024, is a proactive measure to prevent potential suicide incidents and safeguard precious human lives.

The leader emphasized that this initiative aligns with his previous demands and reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing public safety concerns. However, he also called for a thorough investigation into the underlying causes of suicide incidents. It is crucial to ascertain whether these tragedies are linked to domestic violence, harassment, or other socio-economic factors.

Moreover, the NC Leader advocated for the establishment of a dedicated helpline for the general public. Such a service would offer immediate support and guidance to individuals in distress, potentially preventing suicide and improving overall mental health support within the community.

The Leader reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to protect and support the residents of Srinagar. He urged the administration to continue working collaboratively with various stakeholders to address the root causes of such incidents and enhance the overall well-being of the population.
