Ganderbal, 19 October 2024 — Hon’ble MLA Kangan, Mian Meher Ali, made an unannounced visit to the Mini Maternity Centre in Watlar at around 10:15 AM today, uncovering several concerning issues related to the functioning of the facility.

To the MLA’s dismay, numerous employees were found absent from their duties, while some who are officially drawing salaries from the centre have been deployed to other institutions, leaving the centre nearly non-functional. This irregular deployment of staff has severely impacted the centre’s ability to operate as expected.

During the visit, Mian Meher Ali also reviewed the state of the X-ray and ultrasound (USG) machines. He learned that the X-ray machine, which was procured years ago, remains unused, with its parts never properly assembled, now suffering from rust. Additionally, ultrasound services are offered only once every 15 days, raising concerns about inadequate healthcare services for local residents.

Sanitation was another significant concern. The MLA found the centre in an unsanitary condition, with bird droppings scattered across the premises, further highlighting the lack of basic hygiene.

In response to complaints from local residents, Mian Meher Ali assured them that he would escalate the matter to higher authorities to ensure that these issues are addressed promptly.
