Legal awareness prog. held to sensitize students on crucial issues at MPML HSS Srinagar
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08(PTK): District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, organized a comprehensive legal awareness programme at MPML Higher Secondary School Bagh-e-Dilawar Khan, Srinagar.
This initiative aimed to sensitize students about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the menace of drug abuse, and the crucial role of legal services institutions including Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) and Legal Aid Clinics.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and conducted under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge and Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.
An official from the Child Welfare Committee addressed the gathering on the provisions and importance of the POCSO Act, highlighting the need for awareness and early intervention to protect children from abuse.
Deputy LADC, DLSA Srinagar, spoke on the alarming issue of drug abuse, its impact on youth, and the available legal and rehabilitative measures. Assistant LADC, engaged the students by outlining the role and functions of legal services institutions in ensuring access to justice for all.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty alike. It fostered a constructive dialogue on rights, protection, and legal support mechanisms available to young individuals.
Through such initiatives, DLSA Srinagar continues to reaffirm its commitment to promoting legal literacy among the youth, with the broader aim of building a more informed, aware, and empowered society.(PTK)
