Javid Dar Flags Off Farmers for Training Programme at SKUAST-Kashmir
Srinagar, June 11 (PTK): Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperatives and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar, on Wednesday flagged off a group of farmers for a one-day training and awareness programme at SKUAST-Kashmir aimed at enhancing farmers’ knowledge and exposure to modern agricultural practices.
The programme, organized by the J&K Kissan Advisory Board, witnessed the participation of around 80 progressive farmers from different areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister underscored the importance of capacity building and knowledge-sharing in strengthening the agricultural sector and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
He said the training programme would provide farmers with firsthand exposure to modern and scientific farming techniques, including high-density orchard management, integrated farming systems, waste decomposer technology, advanced agricultural tools and machinery, and post-harvest management of fruits and vegetables.
Javid Dar stated that such initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing farm productivity, increasing income levels of farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices across Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the participating farmers to make effective use of the knowledge and skills gained during the programme and share the information with fellow farmers in their respective villages and communities for wider dissemination of modern agricultural practices.
During the training session, farmers interacted with experts and exchanged experiences and ideas on various aspects of agriculture, including organic farming, crop management, innovative cultivation methods and emerging agricultural technologies.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering farmers through training, technological interventions and awareness programmes aimed at modernizing the agriculture sector and making farming more profitable and sustainable.
Among those present on the occasion were MLA Lal Chowk Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed, Director Agriculture Kashmir Sartaj Ahmad Shah, Secretary J&K Kissan Advisory Board Bhumesh Sharma, Chief Agriculture Officer Srinagar Aijaz Ahmad, Chief Horticulture Officer Baramulla Javid Ahmad, Chief Horticulture Officer Srinagar Jyoti Prashad, Chief Horticulture Officer Budgam Shafiqa Khalid, Chief Horticulture Officer Ganderbal Madan Lal, besides other senior officers and officials.
