International Drug de-addiction day, Situation alarming in kashmir, parents public must play their role:- Director health services Kashmir

Press Trust of Kashmir | Srinagar : On the occasion of international drug De-Addiction Day, Director Health services in Kashmir said that situation is very alarming in Kashmir as both boys and girls have fallen prey to drug abuse and drugs like opium, brown sugar and alcohol consumption.

 

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Rather said that situation is very grim and many youth also mix drugs with fluids and alcohol.

 

But if one wants to leave it, drug abuse is not a fatal ‘disease’ and that if detected on time, addicts can be saved.

 

Parents and local committees have to play a role by keeping vigil and bring back their youth with love who have got involved, he said.

 

Police must break the chain of drug addicts and drug peddlers and accordingly send drug addicts to de addiction centres.

 

He said that health department plays its role of providing various therapies like Oral Substitution Therapy and other therapies to treat the patient. There have been so many success stories of youth who quit drug abuse after being treated by the doctors,” he said.

 

He said that in eight districts of J&K there is an Anti Drug Treatment Facility available. “Besides, treatment for drug addicts is available at all districts, sub district hospitals, health centres and also at the primary health centres where special doctors are available for the addicts, he added.

 

He said that rifts/quarrels between parents at home, bad company of friends, anxiety and depression are main reasons that push the Kashmiri youth including girls towards drug abuse.

 

He said drug addiction is story of every household now and all psychologists besides parents and law enforcement agencies must play their role to keep our generation away from addiction.
