India’s first national highway near Pakistan border, where fighter planes will land
SRINAGAR, SEP 09 (PTK): Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated an emergency landing airstrip on National Highway-925 in Barmer.
This airstrip has been built in Adagawa of the Barmer-Jalore border, about fifty kilometers from the Pakistan border in Rajasthan.
The three-kilometre stretch of Satta-Gandhav on National Highway-925 has been prepared as an emergency landing field for the Air Force. This is the first national highway where fighter jets of the Air Force will make an emergency landing.
The Air Force’s Hercules C-130J aircraft carrying Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat made a mock emergency landing on this national highway. After this the airstrip was inaugurated.
After the inauguration, Rajnath Singh said, “In order to improve the operational capabilities of the Army, the National Highways Authority of India is developing emergency landing fields at several places in the country. It will also help in relief operations during natural calamities.”
Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jets, AN-32 military transport aircraft and Mi-12V5 helicopters also made mock emergency landings on this runway in front of the two ministers.
This new highway has been built under the Bharatmala scheme of the central government. This project will improve connectivity between the villages of Barmer and Jalore districts located on the International Border. (PTK)
