Govt revokes detention order of Farooq Abdullah
Srinagar, Mar 13 (PTK): Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday revoked the detention order of former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah.
According to Press Trust of Kashmir (PTK), an order issued by the Principal Secretary to Government, Shaleen Kabra said, “In exercise of powers conferred under section 19(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978, the Government hereby revokes the detention order bearing No. DMS/PSA/120/2019 dated 15-09-2019 issued by District Magistrate, Srinagar, extended for a period of 03months vide Government order No. Home/PB-V/668 of 2020 dated 11-03-2020 of Dr Farooq Abdullah S/o Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah R/o Gupkar Road, Srinagar with immediate effect.
Days ago, eight opposition parties sent a joint resolution to the BJP-led government, demanding the immediate release of all political detainees in Kashmir, especially the three former Chief Ministers-Farooq and Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
Under the Narendra Modi government, “democratic dissent is being muzzled by coercive administrative action, which has threatened the basic ideals of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity as enshrined in our Constitution,” the resolution read. (PTK)
