Govt extends detention period of Mehbooba Mufti by three more months

Srinagar, Jul 31 (PTK): The detention of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) was extended by three months, hours before it was due to expire.

She has been in detention from August 05 last year and was booked under PSA in February this year.

“Whereas District Magistrate Srinagar in exercise of powers conferred us 8 (1) (a) ( of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 19/8 vide order No. DMS/PSA 14//2020 dated 05-02-2020 read with corrigendum issued vide endorsement No DMS PSA/920-24/2020 and 28362841 dated 06-02-2020, ordered the detention of Ms Mehbooba Mufti D’o Late Muti Mohd Sayed Rc B behara 4 P Nowgam Srinagar with a view to prevent her from acting in any manner prejudicial to the maintenance of Public Order and directed her lodgment in Subsidiary Jail OMO-6 Transport Yard, MA Road. Srinagar and whereas the aforesaid order of District Magistrate Srinagar came to be executed on 06-02-2020.

Whereas the Government vide order No HOME PB.V 1 372 of 2020 dated 14-02-2020. approved the above order of District Magistrate Snnagar and wWhereas on receipt of opinion from the Advisory Board, the Government vide order No HOME PB V 543 of 2020 dateu 26-02-2020, confirned the above order of District Magistrate Srinagar and directed that the detenue be detained for a period of three months n the first instance and Whereas in exercise of powers conferred by section 10 of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act,1978, the detenue was ordered to be shifted/removed from Subsidiary Jail. DMQ-6 Transport Yard. MA.Road Srinagar to Subsidiary Jal Farew Gupkar Road Srinagar de Government order No Home PB-V913 of 2020 caed 07-04- 2020 and whereas on the reports from field formations, the detention period of the detenue was further extended for three months vide Government order No Home PB-V/1137 of 2020 dated 05-05-2020; and Whereas the period of detention of the delenue is scheduled to expire on 05-08-2020, and

Whereas the law enforcing agencies have recommended further extension in the period of detentor and on examination the same is considered to be necessary.

Now therefore, in exercise powers conferred by section 8(1) (a) read with clause (a) el sub section (1) of section 18 of the J&K PSA 1978 the Government hereby directs that the period of detention of Ms Mehbooba Mufti Do Late Mufti Mohd Sayed Rabenata AP Nowgam Srinagar be extended for a fute period of three months and she may be indulged in subsidiary Jai Farvey Gupkar Road Srinagar.
