Forces, militants exchange bullets in Sopore village

SRINAGAR, (PTK): A firefight between militants and security forces started this morning in Gund Brath village of Sopore in North Kashmir after army along with Special Operation Group launched searches to find out the hining militants.

As per the reports that come reached Press Trust of Kashmir, joint team of security forces that includes 22 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army, Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched search operation in Mir Mohallla area of Gund Brath after receiving inputs about presence of some militant ultras.

While the searches were going on, forces reached a suspected spot and tried to go closer to it but the hiding militants started firing intensively on forces. Forces retaliated to the fire in a same way leading to an encounter.

A police officer while confirming the encounter has said that forces have established contact with the militants who were hiding. He has said that after they received inputs about presence of some militants in Gund Brath, they laid a siege.

As per our sources, 2-3 militants are engaged in encounter with forces and are from Lashker-e-Taiba militant outfit. However, this couldn’t be verified from any official sources.

To maintain law and order and to prevent rumour mongering, the authorities have suspended internet including low speed services in the Sopore areas.

Moreover, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore has ordered suspension of classwork in Government Degree Collage Sopore as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.
