Eyewitness Identifies Yasin Malik As Shooter Behind 1990 Killing Of 4 IAF Men
In a startling revelation during Thursday’s proceedings at a special CBI court, former IAF corporal Rajwar Umeshwar Singh identified JKLF chief Yasin Malik as the assailant responsible for the 1990 killing of four IAF personnel in Srinagar. The eyewitness vividly described the event, stating that Malik, donning his ‘pheran,’ drew his gun and opened fire on the group of IAF personnel.
Survivor of the terror attack, Rajwar Umeshwar Singh, bravely pointed towards Malik in the courtroom, designating him as the main shooter. It’s noteworthy that Malik attended the court session via video link from Delhi’s Tihar Jail, where he has been incarcerated since 2019.
The incident, which occurred on January 25, 1990, in Rawalpora on the outskirts of Srinagar, resulted in the tragic death of four IAF men, including squadron leader Ravi Khanna. Additionally, 40 people were injured during the attack. The IAF personnel were awaiting transport to the old Srinagar airfield for duty when they became targets of the terrorist assault.
A significant step in the long-standing legal proceedings, a charge sheet was filed on August 31, 1990, against Yasin Malik and five others before the designated TADA Court in Jammu. The other accused individuals include JKLF operatives Ali Mohammed Mir, Manzoor Ahmed Sofi alias Mustafa, Javed Ahmed Mir alias ‘Nalka,’ Showkat Ahmed Bakshi, Javed Ahmed Zargar, and Nanaji.
Senior Public Prosecutor for CBI, Monika Kohli, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “This is an important development in the case… the prosecution witness has identified Malik as the man behind the shooting.”
Despite being given the opportunity to cross-examine the eyewitness, Yasin Malik refused and has been insisting on physically appearing in court. Malik faces charges not only in this case but also in other high-profile incidents, including the 1989 abduction of Rubaiya Sayeed, the daughter of then Union home minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The unfolding courtroom drama adds a new chapter to the complex legal battles involving Yasin Malik.
