Earthquake Strikes Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, Sending Tremors Across Jammu and Kashmir

NEW DELHI: Residents of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, were jolted by an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale that struck at 9:34 pm local time today. The tremors were also felt in neighboring areas, including Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Officals from  Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) told news Press Trust of Kashmir that, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Chamba region. While there have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property, the quake has sparked concern among residents, many of whom rushed out of their homes in fear.

 

Earthquakes are not uncommon in this region, which falls within a seismically active zone. The authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, especially in the aftermath of the tremors.
