DM Ramban chairs District Road Safety Committee, Regional Transport Authority meets

Asks for conducting safety audit of all routes

PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR RAMBAN, SEPTEMBER 03: District Magistrate, Ramban, Mussarat Islam today chaired the District Road Safety Committee meeting   and reviewed the implementation of road safety plan for reducing accidents, creating awareness about road safety, safety audit and improvement of roads.

The meeting was attended by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohita Sharma; ACR, Gias-Ul-Haq; CEO, Dev Anand; ARTO, Samrinder Singh; Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti, DHO,  representatives from BRO, besides other committee members.

Threadbare discussion was held on  identification of black spots, installation of crash barriers, organization of road safety awareness camps, protective measures taken in accident prone areas on NH-44 and dangerous shooting stones zones and issues related to wrong parking, creation of parking zones etc.

Stressing on collective measures to reduce road accidents and protection of roads, the DC asked the concerned officers to maintain close inter-departmental coordination to minimize the road accidents and timely rehabilitation of the accident victims.  He said that a fresh road safety audit of all roads shall be conducted  within the territorial  jurisdiction of district Ramban.

He directed the concerned to regulate the plying of goods carrying vehicles like tippers, dumpers, trucks on Gool-Karol road.

 The DC also directed the  concerned to take all necessary measures to control over speeding especially on NH-44 by taking strict action on violators.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the Regional Transport Authority was also held under which the Authority reviewed existing numbers of passenger vehicles, Extension of Route Permit, applications for the change of route in permits for passenger vehicles in the district.

 Earlier, ARTO informed about the initiatives taken to curb the menace of over speeding, over charging, wrong parking, drunken driving, under age driving etc on NHW and various link roads.

It was also decided in the meeting that the traffic police and  MVD department shall organize special Nakkas to check the violations of the rules.
