DM Kishtwar Invokes PSA Against Habitual Bovine Smuggler, Lodged in District Jail
Kishtwar, June 3 (PTK): In a significant action aimed at maintaining public order and communal harmony, District Magistrate Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, has invoked the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA), 1978, against an alleged habitual bovine smuggler and ordered his preventive detention.
According to official sources, the detention order has been issued against Mohammad Saleem, son of Nissar Ahmed, a resident of Bagla Dali in Doda district, following recommendations made by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar.
The dossier submitted by the police reportedly revealed the accused’s repeated involvement in organised illegal transportation and smuggling of bovine animals across Doda, Kishtwar and adjoining areas.
Officials stated that despite his previous involvement in criminal activities and legal action taken against him, the accused allegedly continued to engage in similar unlawful activities, reflecting a habitual tendency and disregard for the law.
The District Magistrate observed that such activities carry serious communal implications and possess the potential to disturb public tranquillity, communal harmony and the normal pace of life in the region.
The administration further noted that conventional legal measures had failed to deter the accused from continuing his alleged illegal activities.
After examining the material placed before him and being satisfied that the activities of the accused were prejudicial to the maintenance of public order, the District Magistrate invoked the provisions of the Public Safety Act and ordered his detention.
Following the issuance of the detention order, the accused has been lodged in District Jail Kishtwar.
Reiterating its firm stance against illegal activities, the district administration stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy against bovine smuggling, anti-social elements and all activities that threaten public order and communal harmony.
The administration warned that stringent action under relevant laws will continue against individuals involved in such unlawful activities.(PTK)
