DM Jammu Reviews Impact of 100-Day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan, Orders Strict Action Against Drug Misuse

Jammu, June 3 (PTK): District Magistrate Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review the implementation and impact of anti-drug initiatives being carried out under the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan.

During the meeting, the District Magistrate assessed the progress achieved under the intensive anti-drug campaign and appreciated the coordinated efforts of various departments in combating the menace of substance abuse across the district. He also reviewed the effectiveness of ongoing interventions and discussed corrective measures to further strengthen the campaign during the remaining period.

The meeting reviewed the status of “Drug Free Panchayat” declarations and examined administrative as well as police action taken in identified drug hotspots across Jammu district.

Emphasising the importance of public awareness, Dr. Minhas discussed strategies to actively engage school children and youth in anti-drug initiatives. He directed concerned departments to further intensify awareness campaigns and ensure that information regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse reaches every section of society.

The District Magistrate also called for regular and rigorous inspections of psychiatric institutions and de-addiction centres to ensure effective rehabilitation services and compliance with prescribed norms.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners Ansuya Jamwal and Vidhu Shekhar, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Harbaksh Singh, Joint Director Information Deepak Dubey, District Social Welfare Officer Preeti Sharma and other concerned officers and stakeholders.

Earlier, the District Magistrate chaired a separate meeting with psychiatrists, medical officers and managers of private de-addiction centres operating in the district.

During the interaction, he directed all private de-addiction facilities to achieve full compliance with Statutory Order (SO) 91 of 2026 within six months and warned that strict legal action would be initiated against institutions failing to adhere to the prescribed guidelines.

While assuring full administrative support to stakeholders genuinely working towards drug de-addiction and rehabilitation, Dr. Minhas invited constructive suggestions to further strengthen efforts aimed at eliminating the drug menace.

Expressing serious concern over the misuse of prescription medicines, the District Magistrate directed the Assistant Drugs Controller to maintain strict surveillance over the procurement, storage and sale of scheduled drugs.

“Each pill has to be accounted for,” Dr. Minhas said while directing authorities to take stringent legal action against any establishment found violating stock maintenance norms or failing to maintain proper records of scheduled medicines.

He reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening enforcement, awareness and rehabilitation measures to build a drug-free Jammu and protect the younger generation from the growing threat of substance abuse.(PTK)
