Consignment Containing 190 Strips of Tapentadol Seized at Srinagar Airport

SRINAGAR: In a proactive move, the Drug Control Department, in collaboration with the Sales Tax Central Enforcement Airport Wing and with the assistance of DTDC Express courier firm, intercepted a consignment at the Cargo Terminal of Srinagar International Airport on February 21, 2024. The consignment, found to contain 190 strips of the psychotropic drug Tapentadol, underscores the ongoing battle against illegal drug trade.

Estimating the street value of the seized drugs at approximately 266,500, authorities have intensified efforts to track down the origins and intended destination of the shipment. Mtrs. Irfana Ahmad, Joint Drugs Controller, emphasized the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug abuse and highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in combating such illicit activities.

Acknowledging the crucial role played by multiple agencies, including the Drug Control Department, Sales Tax Central Enforcement Airport Wing, and DTDC Express, authorities emphasized the importance of coordinated action in thwarting drug trafficking and safeguarding communities.

The investigation into this case remains ongoing, with authorities committed to pursuing legal avenues under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Further details will be disclosed as the investigation progresses, reaffirming the commitment to uphold the law and ensure public safety.
