Civilian Injured in Sopore Encounter as Operations Continue

 

Sopore, April 25: A civilian was injured during an ongoing encounter that broke out in Check Mohalla Nowpora in the area of PD Sopore village of north Kashmir on Thursday evening

 

As per news agency Press Trust of Kashmir reports that, Farooq Ahmed Dar sustained a bullet wound to his shoulder during the ongoing operation in Check Mohalla Nowpora. The injured was promptly taken to a nearby health facility, where his condition is reported to be stable.

 

The incident unfolded when a joint team comprising Army’s 22 RR, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police initiated a cordon and search operation based on credible intelligence about the presence of militants in Nowpora village. As they closed in on the suspected location, militants opened fire, leading to an intense exchange with security forces.

 

The Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the development in a post on X, stating, “An #encounter has started at Check Mohalla Nowpora in the area of PD #Sopore. Police & security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”
