Army Officer Killed in Doda Encounter with Militants
Jammu, August 14: An army officer was killed in an encounter with militants in the Akar Forests area of Doda on Wednesday.
According to official sources from Press Trust of Kashmir, Captain Deepak led from the front during the operation, directing his team towards neutralizing the terrorists. Despite suffering gunshot injuries from the militants’ firing, Captain Deepak continued to guide his men until he was evacuated to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, making the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
A senior officer reported that Captain Deepak was the third person behind scouts when the search operations began. He engaged the terrorist group throughout the night and into the morning, remaining in command despite his severe wounds.
The search operation is still underway. Security forces had launched “Operation Assar” late Tuesday night, a joint effort by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police aimed at militants in the Akar Forest near Patnitop. During this operation, one militant was injured and an M4 rifle was recovered. Bloodstains at the scene suggest there may be additional casualties, although details are still emerging. Authorities also seized three rucksacks from the area.
This incident is part of a series of operations that have been ongoing across Anantnag, Kishtwar, and Udhampur districts since Saturday.
