DC Kupwara reviews issues of persons with special abilities

Says specially abled persons need special attention

PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR KUPWARA, JULY 26: The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir today convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the issues related to the persons with special abilities.

The DC discussed threadbare various issues pertaining to the welfare of specially abled persons in the district and received updated status and feedback from the concerned officers.

He stressed on the officers to put added efforts from their individual level and ensure timely redressal of all the issues pertaining to them. He said these specially abled persons need special attention so that there would be no question of any issue.

Earlier, the meeting discussed agenda points one by one and the concerned departments were given directions by the chair.

The Health department was asked to keep specialists including Consultants, Psychiatrist and Orthopedician available in the District Medical Board.  Likewise,  the Social Welfare Department was asked to ensure awareness regarding various schemes for specially abled persons, while the Youth Services and Sports Department was directed to organize events for them.

The issues regarding examination,  administration and enrolment of the persons with disabilities in schools was also discussed. Food department was asked to provide facilities under NAFSA to them.

Other departments including RDD, Sheep Husbandry, Employment were also directed to provide facilities to them.

The ARTO Kupwara was asked to provide reservation of seats available in passenger vehicles. R&B department was directed to construct Ramps and tactiles for the persons with special abilities.

The ADC Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir, SDM Lolab, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat,  CEO, DSWO and other concerned attended the meeting.
