Police Destroy Illicit Poppy Cultivation in Ganderbal; Case Registered
Ganderbal, May 29 (PTK): Continuing its intensified campaign against drug-related activities under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, J&K Police in Ganderbal detected and destroyed an illicit poppy cultivation during a routine patrolling operation in Wandhama village under the jurisdiction of Police Station Lar.
According to police, a patch of land cultivated with poppy straw-like plants was identified during the operation. The illicit crop was immediately destroyed on the spot as part of the anti-narcotics drive.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the land was allegedly under the possession of Muzaffar Ahmad Koul, son of Abdul Gaffar Koul, a resident of Wandhama, who is suspected of cultivating the prohibited crop.
In this connection, Police Station Lar has registered FIR No. 16/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to eliminating the drug menace from society and urged the public to cooperate by sharing information regarding illegal narcotics cultivation, drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
The action forms part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, aimed at creating a drug-free society through strict enforcement and public participation.(PTK)
