Yasin Malik Examined by Doctors at AIIMS, Provided Medical Treatment, High Court Informed

NEW DELHI : Today, during proceedings at the Delhi High Court, it was revealed that Yasin Malik, a separatist leader serving a life sentence in a terror funding case, underwent examination by doctors at AIIMS and has been administered necessary medical care.

Representatives for the central government and the Director General of Prisons (Tihar Jail) assured the court that Malik will receive required medical attention whenever necessary.

Malik, citing serious cardiac and kidney issues, had petitioned the court seeking direction for his treatment and referral to AIIMS or a private super-specialty hospital in Delhi or Jammu and Kashmir.

Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta acknowledged the submissions made by the counsel and disposed of Malik’s petition accordingly.

Rajat Nair, appearing for the Centre and DG (Prisons), informed the court that Malik was discharged after being examined at AIIMS and affirmed that appropriate medical treatment has been provided to him.

Furthermore, the court directed the jail superintendent to ensure compliance with the order.

Earlier, the court had directed Tihar Jail authorities to ensure Malik’s proper medical care.

The petition was filed on behalf of Malik by his mother, Aatika Malik, alleging suppression of facts regarding his medical condition and refusal of treatment offered by authorities.

Nair argued Malik’s classification as a “very high-risk security prisoner” and advocated for medical care within the jail premises.

Malik, the chief of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, was sentenced to life imprisonment in May 2022 under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has appealed in the Delhi High Court seeking enhancement of Malik’s sentence from life imprisonment to death penalty.

The life term was awarded for offences including waging war against the government of India and raising funds for terrorist activities.

Additionally, Malik received concurrent 10-year jail terms for charges of criminal conspiracy, conspiracy to wage war against the government, and membership in a terror organization.
