PTK News Desk
Authorities in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir have taken a significant step by suspending all virtual private networks (VPNs) until the culmination of elections in the region.
The decision comes in response to a surge in VPN usage observed by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, indicating suspicious activities by internet users. VPNs, known for encrypting data and creating point-to-point tunnels while masking IP addresses, pose a risk of exposing sensitive information related to the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections and other critical data to cyber attacks.
According to the order issued by District Magistrate Rajouri, the suspension of VPN services is deemed necessary to ensure the protection of election-related data and other vulnerable information from potential cyber threats. Rajeev Kumar Khajuria, Additional District Magistrate, Rajouri, highlighted the importance of immediate preventive measures to mitigate risks and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
The decision, made under the authority vested in the District Magistrate under Section 144 Cr. PC, reflects a proactive approach by local authorities to safeguard the electoral process and maintain cybersecurity in the region.
While the suspension of VPN services may inconvenience some users, it underscores the priority placed on securing sensitive data and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process in Rajouri district.
As the election process unfolds, it is crucial for all stakeholders to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to the measures implemented to safeguard democratic practices and protect critical information from potential threats.
