Tragedy Strikes Balochistan: 25 Killed, Dozens Injured in Pre-Election Blasts
Two separate explosions rocked Balochistan province, leaving a trail of devastation just a day before Pakistan’s general elections. The first blast, outside an independent candidate’s office in Pishin, claimed the lives of at least 15 people and injured over 30 others. Meanwhile, a second explosion targeted the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) office in Killa Saifullah district, further exacerbating the situation.
The explosion outside the office of independent candidate Asfand Yar Khan Kakar in Pishin’s Khanozai area resulted in 12 fatalities and over 30 injuries. Kakar, who is contesting elections from NA-265 constituency and Balochistan Assembly constituencies – PB-47 and PB-48, was fortunately not present during the attack.
In the aftermath of the blasts, the injured were swiftly transported to Tehsil Hospital Khanozai, with many reported to be in critical condition. The gravity of the situation prompted authorities to declare an emergency across hospitals in Quetta, mobilizing additional staff and resources to handle the influx of casualties.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken cognizance of the incidents, demanding a comprehensive report from Balochistan’s chief secretary and Inspector General of Police (IGP). A spokesperson for the ECP underscored the need for swift action against those responsible for the heinous acts of violence.
Amidst the chaos, Asfand Yar Khan Kakar spoke with Geo News, confirming that the blast originated from a motorcycle parked outside his election office. The tragic events serve as a grim reminder of the challenges and risks associated with the democratic process in regions plagued by instability and unrest.
