Students complaining non-availability of Public Transport during evening hours

SRINAGAR, MAR 20 (PTK): Students studying in different parts of Srinagar are complaining against the non-availability of Public Transport during the evening hours.

While speaking to News Agency Press Trust of Kashmir about this issue, the students complained that after 06 PM the public transport recede from view forcing them to wait for hours even in inclement weather.

“I wait for an hour almost every day. I reach home late in the evening that makes my parents worried. The drivers even take double to the actual fare.” said Mahir who is studying in Parraypora and lives in Lawaypora in outskirts of Srinagar.

Students studying in uptown Srinagar are mostly facing this problem.

“The drivers are taking advantage of our problem and are charging extremely high during this time.” said Uzair who lives in Srinagar outskirts.

A student who lives in Tengpora said that, “Not only in evening, we faces similar problem during day time. I daily miss my classes as because of poor transportation system. I leave home at 03:00 PM daily and I reach my tuitions which is located just 2 km’s from my home at 5 or around.”

The students from Srinagar outskirts Narbal, HMT, Umerabad, Parimpora, Shalteng complained the same.

“No sumo service is available from Shalteng-Narbal or Magam. It makes us to be dependent upon overcrowded buses and we even sometimes sit on roofs of the buses. We put our lives at risk to reach home. Concerned authorities should intervene into this matter.” said a class 10 student.

”For a distance of just seven kilometers from Shalteng-Narbal, sumo drivers are charging us Rs.50. We have no option expect paying what drivers demand.” a student said.
