TAROUBA (TRINIDAD) :– South Africa stormed into their first-ever T20 World Cup final with a commanding nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the semifinal held here.
Opting to bat first, Afghanistan crumbled under the pressure from the formidable South African pace attack, managing to score only 56 runs. The Proteas then swiftly chased down the target, achieving the win with 67 balls to spare.
The South African bowlers capitalized on the favorable seam conditions, dismantling Afghanistan’s batting lineup early. Afghanistan found themselves in dire straits, losing half their side within the Powerplay.
Marco Jansen led the charge with impressive figures of 3/16, supported by Kagiso Rabada (2/14) and Anrich Nortje (2/7). Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi also played a crucial role, claiming three wickets for just six runs. Azmatullah Omarzai was the only Afghan batter to reach double digits, scoring 10 off 12 balls.
In their chase, South Africa displayed remarkable efficiency. Reeza Hendricks scored 29, while Aiden Markram remained unbeaten on 23, ensuring a comfortable victory despite the early dismissal of one wicket by Fazalhaq Farooqi.
