JAMMU, July 23: A soldier was martyred as the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by terrorists along the Line of Control in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, early Tuesday morning, officials reported.
According to the White Knight Corps, “Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating terrorists in the Battal sector at 0300 hours.” The Corps confirmed this through a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
During the intense exchange of fire, Lance Naik Subash Kumar was injured and later succumbed to his injuries, making the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Sources indicated that the terrorists also suffered casualties and were forced to retreat after being detected by the vigilant troops in the Battal forward area of the Krishnagati belt.
Following the incident, a search operation has been launched in the area to ensure no further threats persist. The soldier’s body has been handed over to the Army after the post-mortem, according to a police officer.
In recent months, there has been a noticeable increase in terrorist activities in Jammu, sparking concerns about a potential revival of militancy in the region. The Indian Army remains on high alert to counter these threats and safeguard the nation’s borders.
